Yeah. It was freeware when it came out too; it's from before there was an ecosystem to pay for indie games.

Also the version available on basically all platforms was by a really shitty publisher that didn't give the original dev much of anything, and also just kind of made the game worse. Just get it for free from cavestory.org.
