The rug shows a cosmonaut flying to space from Moscow, with rockets and satellites zooming around him. The border is decorated with a portrait of Lenin as well as portraits of various cosmonauts including Yuri Gagarin, Valentina Tereshkova, Gherman Titov and others.
Designed by Jafar Mujiri, the rug seems to have been commissioned by Iran's communist Tudeh Party to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the Soviet-backed Azerbaijan People's Government in Iranian Azerbaijan in 1945 (dissolved in 1946)
