also unrelated but the official lemmy app, jerboa, apparently publishes releases to the play store that are only compatible with the latest release of lemmy... so major servers that aren't updated to 0.18 yet are broken on it 
I think an influx of app devs will be a boon to the lemmyverse
Boost for Lemmy is also coming.
Boost for Reddit was awesome, so boost for Lemmy is going to be good if it's anything like the Reddit version

I don't think the iOS lemmy apps are that much less jank than the web app if they're anything like the android app, but with enough devs coming over from reddit maybe that won't be true for long.
Regardless, if someone on here with any iOS dev experience wants to fork mlem for a temporary solution, I would encourage them to do so, and feel free to DM me, I think I understand the primary compatibility issue and could offer some guidance on patching it.
I actually haven't even tried mlem with hexbear because I don't have an iphone, its possible though unlikely that it will just work. just be sure to use the full hexbear.net as the instance name
I used to use Sync and it was pretty good, so this is a nice surprise.
when I was an edgy kid I used 4chan sync

These apps don't work with hexbear, right? I couldn't get jerboa or connect to work the other day.
It's kind of hard to tell when the app is jank, vs when the server is jank because a lot of these servers can't really handle to load and throw errors regularly.
there is at least one outstanding issue preventing hexbear compatibility. I think someone on here may have forked jerboa to deal with it temporarily. Long term idk what the devs/admins are gonna do but app compatibility would be really nice.
