Okay quick one here. Your phone homepage is full of garish clashing colors that are precision engineered to draw your eye towards them and inject BRANDING into your eyes.

I use a little android launcher called ap15 which turns your homescreen icons into text. That's it, just text. Pick a nice font, pick a nice color and you're done. Edit the names of the apps to make them more functional. "Coolmusicplayer2k23" gets turned into "Music". Your browser gets turned into "Internet". PodWatcher gets turned into "Podcasts".

Unfortunately I haven't found an equivalent on F-Droid, but if anyone can find one that'd be really cool.

This sounds like an ad but it isn't. It's the nicest way I've found to turn the colorful LOOKATME machine into a functional, dare I say "boring" way to launch apps on your phone.

Thanks for reading.

Home page of my phone just has a clock and a hexbear icon, as it should be.

One could do this on iOS, if so inclined, via the Shortcuts app & just making custom 'Open X App' shortcuts with your preferred text/icon image for their home-screen while hiding the actual apps in the app library. virgil-phone

I use sentien launcher on lineageos, from fdroid. It opens my phone on a completely black screen - apart from a blinking white text cursor. I then tap next to it, and can search for an app (typing "b", for example, brings up badreads, bitwarden, etc. I then tap the icon i need). All app icons have been replaced with arcticons dark.

It's $5 for the "premium" version, but I bought Nova Launcher ~10 years ago and have been using it ever since across 5+ devices. There is a free version, but I forget what it restricts or if it has any ads.

Now if I could just find a weather widget that isn't complete trash.
