I enjoy a good criticism of the things I like, and this book is apparently a classic, so I open up the epub and the first paragraph of the foreword, describing the author's life, immediately says that he came under criticism for "his sympathetic portrayal of White characters" in the play The White Guard.
And suddenly I'm not sure I'm still interested. I don't think I can trust your criticism of Soviet society if you're dumb enough to be sympathetic to the Whites.
Has anyone read this novel, and is it worth my time?

Master and Margarita contains part where NKVD tries to arrest Satan. Metal.
Also, Bulgakov was really weird in that he was sympathetic to Whites but also acknowledged that they couldn't win, because most of Russia supported Reds.
