I'm only familiar with the SWP (USA) personally, which I don't think is a sex cult, but they did try pretty hard to convince a friend of mine who they'd been chatting for like a month up to go to a conference in another state and when she said she had a major surgery right before it they continued to try and coerce her into going, so they are some kind of cult.

I attended a few online meetings of my local trot org and they seemed like weird nerds but mostly harmless, until someone delivered a lecture on why Cuba is imperialist and I stopped paying attention to their emails.

Yeah, that's a real failure mode with student-centric Trot orgs, even otherwise solid ones. It's generally counterproductive but they're reliant on student churn rather than retaining people when they enter the workplace (usually misquoting Lenin about how a factory worker from 1900 working 14 hour days can't be a professional revolutionary.) Be particularly careful of any org that says "We're not a party, we're a (Propaganda org/Cadre training org/UFO-Dolphin friendship society and Nuclear research institute)

I was going to say SWP is a party and isn't specifically targeting students but actually another thing that turned us off was that they wanted to get my younger sibling who was like 3/4 of the way through their degree to drop out of college and go salt at a grocery store or something.

Anyways fuck that org, they also run a newspaper that had several pro-Maidan articles in the mid 2010's.
