If I were to never touch GMail again and use Thunderbird for the rest of my life, would I need to change my adress to free myself from the deathgrip of google?

ah shit. I just changed it from one @gmail.com adress to another, i'll have to tell my boss my email changed again. Any good alternatives?
Free? Not really, sorry. I pay for my email now. The cheapest domain I could pick up, and hosted elsewhere (MS365 atm but looking to switch elsewhere when I quit being lazy about it.) domain was 12$ yearly for a .net and I pay 6 a month for email.
gotcha, thanks
actually, is protonmail any good? i use their VPN on my phone to acess wifi-banned apps at school :P
Give it a shot. I’m not sure what their storage limit is though so it may not be what you’re used to with gmail.
gotcha, they're more secure than google i'm assuming. although that is NOT a high bar lol
protonmail is a lot better than google yes.
The only downside to protonmail I encountered is that the free plan doesn't include IMAP support, so you won't be able to integrate your protonmail to your non-proton mail client (Outlook, Thunderbird, your default phone mail client...)
If that's not an issue for you Protonmail seems pretty good :)
yeah, i'm down to use the web instance. time to start gradually de-googling in the wake of WEI
What's WEI?
