It's funny too because then drivers see a bigger guard rail, they drive more recklessly to account for the sense of safety.
It's almost like relying on any given individual's sense of competence is a really shitty way to design transportation.

As those guardrails are changed to be able to stop 10,000 lb brodozers, they become more lethal to the folks driving normal cars.
