I'm personally against posting battlefield footage. I think the people who are interested in it should find it on telegram where it is readily available.

I've got some reservations about a battle footage sub. The reddit ones are pretty cruel and reactionary, and it would be difficult to appropriately tag posts with content warnings and such.

OK, Shouldn't people see the real cost of war and how brutal it is?

I think people can and do already see snippets of that without a dedicated sub. A whole sub of it seems gratuitous and likely to raise problems others have pointed out.

A little can be good for keeping perspective, a lot usually turns into gawking or worse.

I think this is the most reasonable response here. We shouldn't have a dedicated comm for it, honestly. It will just be seen as cruel and pointless gawking; akin to the ones we see on reddit. Small snippets or pieces for major conflicts or offensives I can see being reasonable, or certain footage of exceptional events/etc.

I aint a "admin of lemmygrad" though, so take my word with a grain of salt.

"Are you an admin of lemmygrad?".

        "Membership".

"OK, Shouldn't people see the real cost of war and how brutal it is?".

The battle footage subs are all people laughing at poor desperate people getting blown up.

OK, Shouldn’t people see the real cost of war and how brutal it is?

I dont think any of us are ignorant to this. Remember, every death is a tragedy when it is the working class getting blown up, there is nothing to celebrate about some random conscript who was probably a janitor or teacher and who has been forced to fight being killed.

I want the war to end, today.

I think the distinction should be the audience, on reddit, the cruelty is the point though I do think the mods should be ready to pull the lever at the first instance of the sub becoming anything like reddit. With that said, I personally hate this and am probably gonna be blocking this sub from my feed

Personally I don't come to this community for combat footage. It serves very little purpose by itself. Without further comment and corroboration by multiple sources, it usually doesn't translate into a broader view of the geopolitical movement of the conflict. While there has been content here that included it, it usually accompanied an analysis of the progress of the war in period/location.

    Not interested.

Communities dedicated to battle videos often become cesspits. I haven't seen a community that hasn't, and I'm not interested in the sort of drama that will bring.

Like others have said, if these posts contain geopolitical analysis and it's not just an armchair military tactician circlejerk, I think they can spark good discussions. As an alternative source of news to MSM reports, I think they can also show merit, but a lot of times they end up being communities that may as well be dedicated to blood sports.

It would be something I would block.
