Trump is sentenced to prison in absentia as he holes up in a Trump hotel or one of his golf courses abroad, claiming he's on important business. He has to finish the election in exile, wins, has to remain abroad while putting together a transition government while the Democrats try and stop him. Then pardons himself and returns to the US on the first day of his administration.
