    Setting up pihole or using a similar DNS based blockage of unwanted content is also really great. Some vpns will have this as an option which can make it easy. Doesn't necessarily protect you from all malicious stuff but it is very effective on dealing with ads and whatnot. Plus dealing with all of that on mobile devices can range from impossible to very difficult

      It's gotten much better in the past few years ln mobile. Firefox for Android has Ublock installed out of the box. You just need to enable it.

      And to block trackers in every other app you can use something like TrackerControl on Fdroid. Duckduckgo also has a similar application but I don't trust them and it's probably not open source

      Oh yeah, I can very much recommend using a pihole, super convenient for those devices in a network that don't really have any direct way of doing this.

      Also a good way of protecting other users in your network who might not be as up to speed when it comes to online privacy and security.

      I've been using personalDNSfilter on my phone and I can read recipe websites again
