I watched some show that took place in some community near the Arctic circle. like a spooky cop show type of deal, and some of the "uh oh" context was that the permafrost was melting, so there was subsidence and old graves being exposed that probably had plague, and then a mammoth was exposed and it had some germ that a starving/displaced polar bear ate and got even more aggressive and attacked people, and then survivors got the bug and it did not get better from there.

anyway, looking forward to the new season IRL.
