There's the odd things that, with the best will in the world, I'm having a trouble buying on the Chinese high street. What Chinese app (Amazon like) do I need to use to get something delivered to a hotel in China?

Taobao, Tianmao, Pinduoduo were the apps I used when I was there. PDD had a little mini app within WeChat too, made it easy. They don't necessarily deliver to the hotel but to one of those collection points you may have seen. For Taobao this was Cainiao (integrated into the app). You get a code which tells you which shelf your package is on, you collect it and get your phone scanned on the way out.
Taobao is the main one. They can have many things delivered within a few hours, even.
