I posted this through Jerboa and filled out the alt text field accordingly.
Could you give me some feedback on it, is it visible for you? I could only see the alt text through a long press on the image in the web client...
EDIT: ofc simply adding it to the post body as well is a solution, but ATM I'm interested in the "integrated" alt text field and how visible that is for others

I'm using Voyager, and I can't see any alt text. Long pressing does nothing, and obviously I can't hover on mobile.
hmm :/
was able to get this in the web client *removed externally hosted image*
mb additionally putting it in the post body would be a good idea for future posts?

I've seen that a few times on other posts. If there's text in the body already, the alt text has been separated, but I don't think there's a standard yet
Tap on the picture, you'll see it on the bottom. Tap on that text area and the rest will show.
Formatting seems all goofed up, but it works.
My opinion on the meme aside.
Nope. Tapping the picture just opens it with no text here. Voyager on Android.
That's what I'm using as well, Voyager on Android.

I'm on the same Voyager version, but tapping the picture just gives me the picture with no text.
I took a screenshot, but I can't see a way to embed it - never mind, closing my keyboard gave me the image, attachment, and formatting options back. The screenshot should be here:

I see it. I'd report it to the dev, would be good for them to know why it isn't working for you.
Yeah, it's a bit odd, this image is showing for me, but others that I've tried to embed in the same way haven't shown up in the past.
I'll report it to them 👍
I'm on the web on computer, and I see the alt text when I hover over the image.
Same energy as, "why don't you become massively rich and then change the system from the inside..." My step dad says that all the time when suggesting I get a job in a huge corporation.

In Canada, there used to be Residential School. My granny went to one. They were pretty horrific to say the least. There were people, at the time, who thought entering them and reforming from within was what to do.
Of course, in reality, the only morally correct option was abolition and - eventually - that's what happened. They had some other levers to pull on the oppression machine like starlight tours and the 60s scoop and so on, but Residential School had only one morally correct position and it was not "reforming from within"
They say it because it makes them feel better. Deep down they know that their vote most likely means nothing within a system where the duopoly will never allow their power to be voted away. They say things like this to quell their own feelings of powerlessness.
These shitlibs will also go out of their way to defend this genocidal pig online instead of spending that time going out and organizing to take direct action.
All the while the overton window gradually shifts to the far right. We're at the point where the country is funding a literal genocide but libs still refuse to organize.
I'd say they'd only start if Red Man is doing it instead of Blue Man, but even that's a stretch.
@Awoo put it better
For the revleft participation in the system is endorsement of it.
You can't tell people to vote in one election and then tell people that actually it needs to be overthrown and think that's going to happen 5 years later.
At some point or another you just have to commit to it being broken and build your movement based entirely on the fact that it is broken and can not be supported in any way whatsoever.
You are not convincing anyone that there is a need for revolution by telling them that actually there is a reason to participate in the system that you want revolution against. Maybe that passes among very well educated theory-heads but it does not work when you exit theory spaces and start talking to the masses.
They're right though. Voting and organizing are independent actions. You can not vote and not organize, not vote and organize, vote and not organize, or vote and organize. The liberal wasn't going to organize no matter what, but at least they voted. If you're organizing, you can vote, too.
"Don't vote because you organizing is better" is a stupid propaganda line designed to help Trump win.
