It's a good article, but very generous. I live in the valleys, and there are a lot of racist people here. They obviously won't admit it if you ask them, but talk to them in the pub, or read their Facebook posts, and you'll see the truth.

Usually /mnt/whatever for static mounts and /media/whatever for removable mounts (those appear as drives in file managers, whereas /mnt doesn't).

Just to check, if I mount the drives under /media, will that still treat them as removable, or will they appear as permanent drives?

Linux is obviously very good, but you are right, we give Linux a pass sometimes because we 'build' it. We tend to overlook its flaws because we want it to be better than the competition.

I've recently had an upgrade fail to the point of a reinstall, a folder that I can't share between two users on the same laptop, and shutdown buttons on two computers that disappeared. If those problems happened on Windows, I'd be really annoyed, but because they happened on Linux, I just fixed them and carried on.

Yeah, it's a bit odd, this image is showing for me, but others that I've tried to embed in the same way haven't shown up in the past.

I've seen that a few times on other posts. If there's text in the body already, the alt text has been separated, but I don't think there's a standard yet

I'm using Voyager, and I can't see any alt text. Long pressing does nothing, and obviously I can't hover on mobile.

That way if shit goes haywire you will be able to do a fresh install from a pirated windows image

Just for the record, you don't need to use a pirated copy in a case like that, you can get an ISO directly from Microsoft 👍

From what I can tell, they would both need their own boot partition, which is where I'm stuck. My Windows and Mint installations share a boot partition, and it causes problems for this.

I know that it's not very practical, for most people, but imagine having to use Windows for work or a specific game, and still being able to access your distro as normal. It could be handy for a small niche, and felt like an interesting challenge :)

Yeah, that's what another user found too. It doesn't look like VirtualBox can do it, but this thread suggests that VMWare might be able to. I'm just trying it now :)

Yeah, it's partitions that I'm dealing with. My goal is to transfer everything over, give it a few weeks to make sure that I haven't missed anything, then wipe Windows from the partition so that Mint has the full disc.

Sorry, I should have clarified, I've got a data disc, but I'm forgetting about things that need to be migrated, like Thunderbird profiles and Syncthing. As far as I can tell, I need to export them first, and then import them in Mint. If I set Mint as a VM, I should be able to do it all in one go and hopefully not forget anything else :)

I'm sure I've seen them in some of the bigger shops here, but not the national chains like the supermarkets. Lidl and Aldi would probably have them, but they might be part of the weekly deals though.

You can get drinks bottles that are marked, but they don't tend to be very strong. They might be ok, depending on how careful you are.

The easiest way would be to buy an empty bottle, but that would be the last plastic bottle that you buy.

You buy the sturdier bottles, and there's less chance of them breaking or wearing out, and you don't need to keep buying plastic in the future.
