Oh, fun fact: my upcoming new novel project has its roots in a homebrewed tabletop RPG setting I ran with my old D&D group for a while... and much of the vibes and even some of the species in it started as basically Titan AE fanfiction.

I just removed the humans entirely from the lore; least interesting characters to me.

I liked the aliens in Titan AE a lot more than the Matt Damon Matt Damoning and Drew Barrymore sounding really sleepy and phoning it in as she usually did. Bill Pullman was good and Ron Perlman was Ron Perlman, but still.

I didn't have much to work with lore-wise so I expanded the hell out of the aliens that were presented on screen and then realized "huh I don't really need the humans anymore" and took so many creative liberties with what was left that I decided remodeling them and making them more alien was a better choice.

My other major inspiration was Farscape, make of that what you will.

The people my age that became chuds or libs all went to see STEAL CAR GO VROOM VROOM movie which basically stole Titan AE's intended audience. The animation studio that made Titan AE's special effects only had one movie: Titan AE. And they closed immediately after it failed to pay for itself.

It's also basically the reason why Fox refused to do any animated movies until The Simpsons Movie

And even that took some doing
