The month we (my wife and I) were able to pay for thanks to a very generous donation from this community is up on the 11th and we have nothing to put towards it due to very little help coming in atm - which means we’ll either have to start coming up with $55 every day in order to not be on the street (we have to stay in a motel right now - no family, support system, and unable to work due to disability so housing is next to impossible and being completely without shelter is a death sentence) or come up with $250 for a week, or $650 for a month in advance. Our phone bills are also past due, which we heavily rely upon for access to funds and a myriad other things for survival as well as communicating with eachother when apart. ~$90 is needed for both bills to be paid. We are down a food stamp card as well so things have been EXTREMELY difficult as of late. Any help is greatly appreciated, rent and phones are priority but we also desperately need $$ for food and medications we havent been able to fill yet either. Thank you all so much in advance. they never did as far as I recall. prety sure the Active sort post rankings are based on upvotes and post age, with a decaying buff for most-recent-comment age. So 4 comments all at once does the same thing as 1 comment. The decaying buff is what differentiates it from "Hot", and I believe stock lemmy's Active doesn't have a decay on that buff (either that or it's much slower) so sufficiently active posts can stay on the front page for ages there.
It's in the source code, which is public, but you gotta stitch together a bunch of SQL to get the bigger picture, unless it's changed in the past like 9 months
you could always just open posts you want to bump in a new tab and come back and reply to your own comment every 15 mins or something
As the guy who fixed active sort, I can certify that this is correct. I've been toying with the idea of creating a new bot that responds on a timer, repeatedly, which would provide an actual benefit, but haven't gotten around to it as yet.
Also, stock Lemmy Active sort just uses hot sort with the most recent comment time--up to 2 days after the post is made, called newest_comment_time_necro in the DB--in place of the time when the post was made. So threads can stick around for at least 2 days, but they have to compete with all the other highly-voted recent posts.
(Ironically, I was also the one who came up with the bots idea in the first place lol)
One more thing: the job to re-sort the posts runs every 10 minutes, on the 10-minute mark (e.g. 8:00:00, 8:10:00, 8:20:00, etc), so the closer to one of those you bump, the more effective it is, and bumping more than once every 10 minutes is relatively unnecessary.
