I ate the same thing but ... what's the meat???? Please don't tell me there's fish/oyster sauce in there???? It didn't taste like it....
Edit: So the sauce is usually made with chicken broth? :-(
mapo tofu traditionally has ground pork / beef. Not too much but you'd probably have still noticed it if it were there. You can make it vegetarian by using dried mushroom instead but I've never seen that offered at a restaurant.
Ohhhhh, okay - well mine was just saucy tofu. But that sauce could have been chicken broth based ... boo.
Wasn't particularly piquant, but plenty of numbing flavor
Mapo is one of my every week meals. Shit is great especially if you have some quality pixian doubanjiang.
