After recent events, it feels to me that sentiment has shifted and more people are asking for defederation of hexbear than previously.

I've been doing my best to try and mend bridges and keep us connected, as it's my hope that we can maintain trans solidarity and work with them, despite the friction, however, ultimately, I feel that this is an issue for the blahaj lemmy community to decide, not the admins alone.

So here's what we're going to do.

We're going to leave things as they are for a week. That will give time for things to calm down whilst we see if we can work together. After a week, I'll put up a vote and get a feel for where the community is at in regards to our continued federation with hexbear. That poll will run for a week. If there is a strong will to defederate (a clear majority), then that's what we will do.

Thanks for the update, Ada. I am so so sorry that you suffered so much abuse the past few days from users of both instances. Shame on everyone involved. Every. Last. One.

I got a bad vibe from Hexbear when I saw a borderline transphobic chapotraphouse post in my local feed. I blocked that community and have not seen anything bad since. That "community" was also a shithole on the other place, so I'm not missing much.

Thanks for all that you do, you're basically our Fedi mom, talking to the other parents lol

Would you happen to remember who posted it? I'll look into it. Could have also been a call out of something transphobic, sometimes people word things poorly. We take our purging transphobes very seriously and will hunt them like big game

I don't remember who. The post was about the triggering of libs, using transfem imagery as the backdrop. There was HRT in comic sans written on the background, almost deepfried. I actually thought it was a bad take on 196 at first and was going to report it before noticing it was a community on a different instance, which is why I immediately blocked it and moved on.

On the other place I would use downvotes as a way to keep track of users that posted things like that. If I saw a -5 or lower later when using RES I'd block. I'm without that now, so keeping track requires effort lol

Most of the users I've seen in 196 seem cool which is why I don't care for defederating as long as I can block individual communities. Are you an admin there? If so, would you mind if I send you bad links as I come across them?

I'm not an admin on hexbear, no, I just know everyone at this point because I've been there since day 1. Send me bad links I'll get it removed if it's transphobic

For what it's worth, you can always report remote posts. Reports get sent to the remote community, which will help them because Hexbear takes transphobia really seriously, but reports also get sent to your local instance admin. It's a good way to help your admins get a sense for what's going on on other instances, and then either set of staff can remove it.

Back in the day on the other place it was a very good community. Way back in the day. Before the quarantine and takeover and whatever the hell else happened since…

I didn't know that. I used to browse /all regularly and rarely saw it pop up. It kinda blew up out of nowhere and took over /all for a while which is when I felt like it was being toxic af so I blocked it there too. I do remember thinking some were funny at first, and then the novelty wore off quickly.

They only recently federated after a few years of being an isolated instance. A6o the explosion was them initially federating and their users going out into the fediverse to see what was up
