          at least in europe, potatoes aren't nearly as cheap as they used to be as the changing climate has led to a couple of terrible harvests in a row

          If this is what I think it is, and it really might be, they probably had a predicted profit they didn't meet and considered it a failure (similar to how dead space 2 was a financial success but didn't meet the predicted profit and so was deemed a failure and why dead space 3 was made to appeal to a broader audience).
