Looks like he was a good bit away from building a functioning nuclear reactor, much less a bomb. Fascinating story though.

Sad story too. He was a paranoid schizophrenic and became depressed after the feds raided his house. His mom committed suicide, and he died at age 39 from drugs and alcohol. :(
