Someone in Lemmy.world is constantly posting pro-Milei propaganda, but I find it hard to believe this is the one time in the world Libertarian policies actually work after we've tried it before and it's backfired every time. Not sure if this is the right community, but I could use some counter propaganda help.
Can anyone explain what's happening in Argentina? Are things improving? Is he actually a secret genius? If not, why? If so, is it because of their economic policies or something else?
Some excerpts from the comments (seems to be two guys who love him in there) that sound convincing as someone who doesn't know enough about their economy:
After a 49% poverty left by the previous government. So a tick of 4% after that is almost nothing
People voted him for a reason
Argentina only has 32% inflation, what a success! Indeed, from 211% annual inflation to 107%? Astonishing success
It's 2.7% a month, which puts the inflation at 32%. And that's still the lowest it's been since 2021.
It's not propaganda to say any of it is true
You have just to look at the bigger picture to see if the overall narrative is false...
So far, the first fact is false
Poverty rates actually rose up to 53%, with extreme poverty to around 18.2%, as of September 26, 2024
Second fact
While inflation may be slowing down, will this be a long-term stabilizing measure or not? That, we'll have to see...
Well the first fact was that the last administration left a poverty rate of 49%. So 49 to 53 would be 4%, and they said 4% increase from how much it rose from previous administrations isn't that bad.
The question is did the last administration actually leave 49%? It doesn't appear to be true from the article you linked, at least it doesn't mention that from what I saw. It said there was more an increase of 11%, which is way worse.
So, it turns out I was wrong, I confirmed their facts, but the overall narrative seems to be worse for Argentina... uh, mission failed successfully I guess
