I was wrong about how much getting dressed up actually took off. It's something Esquire champions and predicts but, if I'm being honest, I wasn't sure it could overcome the tyranny of athleisure. But I do hope it happens.
And yet-and yet!-you look around and see guys wearing versions of suits, actual trousers, hard shoes, and, yes, even the tie. A major menswear designer just told me they've sold more suits this year than in the last decade; a menswear exec at a major department store said suits outsell sneakers. If you aren't already, it's time to start dressing up again!
I am seeing less suits every year, though I do not have fashion friends, have standing reservations at Nobu, work the charity and art circuits, or the other uncountable affectations that generally characterize the life of a self-important and morally-bankrupt asshole.
i think every dude should strongly consider, when their financial circumstances allow, getting a custom fitted dark suit jacket that can be paired with dark pants to affect the look of a dark, formal suit. at least for playing to the bench in the theatrical space called a courtroom. but also works for a wedding or a funeral.
sometimes I think about getting the most generic but perfectly tailored blue blazer, khakis and Oxford button down with tie for camouflage to infiltrate the sort of social spaces for class enemies to do some kinda TBD project mayhem b.s.
othertimes I wonder why so much of my wardrobe is inspired by a deliberate effort to maneuver around the world unnoticed, like I'm prepping for my own straight to video Oceans 11 knock off.
Chat is this true?
People in the Media™ love to write about trends that only exist within their immediate social circles, if they even exist at all.

Why do I get the feeling he doesn't own a pair of steel caps?
