Well that’s unfortunate, it’s almost like fake sovereignty. In any case this reminds me of an argument I saw recently about this topic: some people say that Canada should become the 51st state for protection against Russia, because apparently Canada is too close and could be harmed? Which is incredibly stupid as I don’t believe Russia has actually ever threatened Canada specifically and has only had issues regarding the North Pole, but even then that hasn’t devolved into violence.

This argument ignores all the early warning and defense systems installed in the north. Not like the US isn't the biggest part of NORAD and not like they wouldn't jump to Canada's aid if there were some attack.
Yeah, I honestly believe people forget just how steeped in American security Canada actually is. It does not need to be a state to be “protected”. I do not know where this idea comes from that America would just let Canada be invaded by anyone but them.
