Extended content warning(?):
King 810 are a controversial band with a massive "cult following" out of Flint Michigan. I'm honestly not sure how reactionary some of their music might get.
I know they have been called the most hated metal band in the world. But as I understand it, a lot of that has to do with having loaded AK-47s on stage and their shows often turning into riots or violent flareups in the crowd just cuz they were super local and so people would turn up, TURN UP and settle scores.
we'd shoot it out, right there in the street
then I'd walk out on stage with gunpowder on me
- Yavid - Where Were You
^ this is verifiable facts lol. There's helicopter or other surveillance footage of him in the gunfight that got him locked up. Shootouts with cops etc.
It's obviously a really gritty scene. I may have a bias towards this from listening to so much I.C.P and them both being from Michigan.
This song isn't something I'd classify as metal.
The lead singer David Gunn started doing solo work under Yavid and I found that, worked my way back to this.
I find the music video really moving and raw. A confronting depiction of life in Flint, maybe not today, but not too long ago either.
TLDR
Gunn has done time, and a lot of crime, I'm sure he has a lot of victims. I have not dug into him. If the band is particularly bad in some way that I'm just not familiar with as a foreigner I apologise and accept my fate. But I love this song and if King 810 / David Gunn don't have some fucked up politics that I don't know about I might post some Yavid stuff too.
