Then again the game is probably gonna see some major patches and some might even add content.

Yeah, this is definitely going to be a pretty different (probably better) game in a year or two.

I'm going to do a Heroic paladin OR bard ? playthrough at some point in the future, 1-2 years at the earliest.

I've played a bit into Act 1 as a bard and enjoyed it. Some of my friends have played paladin and have found it pretty fun. I think these are both solid choices with quite a bit of flavor to them.
