Hello users of Hexbear,
I wanted to make this post to inform you that hexbear will be temporarily changing to requiring an application for new users. This will stay in effect until after the upcoming pictrs version, and the development of additional mod tooling.
After many complaints mods may begin removing Yakub memes as well as any explicit comment asking a user to post hog, the difference is that while "post hog" is allowed with extreme prejudice commenting "show us your tiny penis" is not allowed, removals will be subject to moderator discretion.
In addition, we would like to reiterate that Hexbear is a space for all our comrades, even if you may not understand their experience, please refrain from labeling a fellow user a wrecker or troll. Using conditions as a pejorative is not allowed, please engage in good-faith and remember the human!
Finally I wanted to hear the user's thoughts, opinions, comments, and proposals regarding Hexbear's recent federation with other lemmy instances.
There are two mod based proposals that I wish to open voting on:
- Should we add sh.itjust.works to the hexbear.net/instances allow-list
- Should we remove lemm.ee from the hexbear.net/instances allow-list

no, no, you see if you set hexbear to local you can uhh... still see all of the site drama posts... and all of the trolls from other sites... and active sorting is still broken
and in an indeterminate amount of months you'll be able to block individual instances, which will hide half of the site's comments from you completely if at any point in a thread someone from a blocked site comments on it
but don't worry, we have a new user application now, even though none of the other sites we're federated with have them, so any wrecker can just sign up at randomfuckignsite.lemmy.poopass and immediately post here anyway!
Conflating this with federation is very dishonest. Everyone knows active sort sucks now and I'd like it to be improved but it doesn't suck because of federation and wouldn't be improved by defederating.
it was more of a retort to people saying "just use local it's just like the pre-federation site!" than "federation directly destroyed my active sort with a J-20 fighter jet"
Ok so you're mad that the barely usable site which was broken in a variety of ways has been updated to a better, stronger foundation and that not every feature is exactly perfect yet. Just seems childish.
