The Republicans are just going to do what they planned to do under Hillary. In 2016, all signs were pointing towards a recession in 2017 or early 2018. The GOP went with Trump because it was like a House money bet. They figured he would lose, they wouldn't have to sacrifice a rising star, and then they could tank Queen Hillary and win big in the 2018 midterms then take back the Presidency in 2020. When Trump won in 2016, the tax cuts were like a sugar rush to keep things going. The rush to fill judge seats was like a gambling addict paying off his debts after an impossible score.

Ultimately, the Republicans made out like bandits this election cycle, and with Trump in general. They held the Senate easily and will gain seats in the House during a Pandemic/crisis while they were in charge. More broadly, they made seemingly-impossible inroads with voters of color (especially Hispanics). When you out Joe's performance in context, the Dems look like they are in big trouble moving forward.
