We can assume how hexbear users feel about themselves. I’d be more interested in how local users feel.

I've never encountered them at least not that I know of. Honestly the constant singling out of instances, and ganging up on them, bitching to the admins to defederate when all you have to do is use the block button. Just makes me be on their side.

And from what I understand, they are NOT on my side of politics either. If you REALLY want to know how they are, then make an account on their instance and interact with them. Experience it for yourself.

I'm not saying this to attack you, because you are being genuinely curious. But I'm sick and tired of the hate of other instances. It shows that lemmy is a failing attempt at a reddit alternative.

That's exactly what I did. Joined the instance.

Largely, they are more left than I think I'll ever be, and I feel like I'm a hair right of Bernie. Mostly they're chill. It's interesting to visit other echo-chambers to check out the acoustics. I generally avoid the overtly political stuff.

Super left. They haven't been mean.

Edited for clarity, I was testing out a different android keyboard and it really f'd the text up surreptitiously.

They are also not really left in any sense of the term. Like all tankies they are primarily authoritarian, and the leftist concepts they sling about are solely a means to an end for them, not actual beliefs.

Me neither honestly (Had to view on another instance to check - mine doesn't support downvotes)

Stuff like this makes me question if there's some hidden meaning in the comment that I'm missing, or whether it's a "pile on them downvotes" thing carried over from our last platform.

There's definitely a hidden meaning to this debate, people who understand far left politics can see it and people who understand right wing politics can see it. Moderate and moderate left (ex the Democratic party) are mostly blind to it because that's who the right wingers are trying to hide from.

...This post may sound a little wild but that's what's going on.

Right wing types hate and fear these guys but can't say their real reasons so they say other reasons that don't sound as bad (they're not genuine with their politics, they're abusive, they brigade a lot, etc) while people who understand the politics (largely other leftists who aren't on board with these guys specifically but also more moderate types) also tend to not like them but can see what's happening here and aren't about to side with the right wing types.

I can disagree with tankies and the extreme right.
Also, the US democratic party is about as left as my right arm, it's just that the US Overton window flew off long ago

We know how they are because we've interacted with them on the larger federation lol. That's what we're talking about here. You apparently haven't interacted with them, so I'm not even sure what the point of this comment is. The OP isn't pushing for defederation, they're just opening a discussion. Not sure how this is any indication that lemmy is failing. Pull up on the reins a bit.
