Read the faq in that link. They are meant to prevent your phone from sending data when connected to a Singray/Femto cell.

There are multiple methods, this one is trying to build a database of all legitimate cell towers and their id#. So whenever you connect to a new cell, it cross referenced the cell id with the database to see if it's legit or a stingray. Then it will warn you/auto disconnect you before you send anything incriminating. This one's neat because it lets you manually manage cell tower connections and actually check the map to see exactly where the tower your phone is connected to physically is.

I misspoke in the original post btw, this is an imsi catcher detector. An IMSI catcher is just a fake cell tower that cops/feds/hackers/etc use to man in the middle your phone. It's ARP spoofing on a much larger scale. Also gives them power to do things to your phone that only your service provider is supposed to be able to do, like push out OTA updates and install apps.

        That's really cool, thank you!

Could two or more people use this to triangulate the location of a Stingray?

Hypothetically? I haven't really used it much. You'd have to read the raw data and determine it from the signal strength. Which would be hard seeing as how both people and the vehicle carrying the stingray would likely be in motion. It would warn you that a Sting Ray is nearby and you could just warn people to be on the lookout for a van or something. If enough people had it installed and were far enough apart, you could find out the general area and send people to search for it.
