This kind of came out like shit but I'm trying my best to learn basic GIMP. 😤😤

Hey so I've been trying to use GIMP lately because I can't really be bothered with the hassle of all the registry edits and shit involved with setting up pirated photoshop again on my current computer (capital wins again), is it just me or is it really awkward to use? Just even basic stuff like moving and resizing layers just seems unnecessarily difficult

PS yours came out fine comrade

To be honest, I'm not well versed in really any image editing software so I really have no preconceived notions as to how they should work. It's awkward but I don't think for the same reasons, haha.

It is a different paradigm. I learned on GIMP and when I have to use Photoshop I feel like an absolute idiot. At the end of the day, Photoshop can probably do more, but GIMP has been sufficient for all of my needs.

I might as well mention that Krita is worth looking into as well. It's more of a drawing program than a photo manipulation program, but there's a lot of overlap and people seem to like it.

The tools selection panel is weird IMO, so I learned the keyboard shortcuts for them.

Yeah, moving and resizing layers is really awkward because it's inconsistent with how other tools work. Most tools only only work on the selected layer, but for some reason if your layer has transparency, it will happily move the layer behind it if you click wrong.
