Maybe some lesser repeat of "Y2K" panic. A few very loud voices skew public opinion about what is happening, some flashy news clips of some panicked people, and after a few months it will all level out. The end result will just be more people realizing that they were poor all along but only thought they weren't because their shoes were newer or slightly more expensive than those they viewed as "the poors".
