Good ginger ale has powdered ginger suspended in it, has a strong ginger flavor, and has a nice burn to it. The two-liters you get in a grocery store just have the barest hint of ginger flavor, but if you pour it in a glass with powdered ginger and stir gently you can meaningfully improve the quality.
Try ginger beer instead. Better yet, make your own. It's super easy. You could also make a ginger syrup and then mix it with seltzer yourself. I make my own ginger syrup for moscow mules and it's worth the effort.
