Reading lists can never be too niche!
What are your recommendations for socialist technology articles, essays, books, videos, movies?
Three books I'd like to read:
- Brain of the Firm by Stafford Beer
- Designing Freedom by Stafford Beer
- Towards A New Socialism by Paul Cockshott
Beer
Cybernetic Revolutionaries by Eden Medina is top-shelf historical resource for the Beer/Allende collaboration. Came out in 2014 after the culmination of 15+ years of work on Medina's part. It got made into a documentary as well.
More of a personal memoir than academic writing, but Abolish Silicon Valley by Wendy Liu was an interesting read.
Also I haven't read it yet, but Riding for Deliveroo: Resistance in the New Economy by Callum Cant looks really good.
+1 to Towards a New Socialism. It’s accessible to anyone without a cs/math background (you can just skip the technical parts) and it actually gives me hope for a future better society.
Thank you I may have to pick it up first out of all my choices.
the folks at GIU have been doing a brain of the firm reading series for most of their last ~10 episodes. for sure on my list too
it's only adjacent, but the cathedral & the bazaar's on my shelf and I keep meaning to pick it up
I love GIU! I really need to check out their BotF series. Thank you.
yeah I've been holding off on listening to those eps until I read it for myself
IMO they're the most well-read marxists in broadcasting
