That may have been badly worded on my part. I mostly just use Firefox and MS office. Lack of office compatibility is a huge factor preventing me from going Linux though

I'm planning to buy it out of pocket and take it with me when I leave this job. I do have a personal budget limit of about $1500 NZD though - which is just enough to get a refurbished MacBook air.

I have a pretty strong background in Linux, and found OS X to be the best ‘out of the box’ UI for a posix machine.

That's interesting. I'm fairly comfortable with Linux too so I'm hoping that'll ease the switch to macOS.
