    There’s a misconception out there that sacred harp music is a white people thing. The southern black church has a much cooler and better sacred harp tradition, though it has not been preserved. Pretty sad tbh, because white people sacred harp sounds weird for the most part, but black sacred harp sounds like a bunch of people having fun.

      It does sound weird, but I dig that in its own way. I have zero connections with the south but I do really like medieval music and sacred harp hits that vibe.

      I saw a post somewhere a few days ago (not here) that had a roundup of different regional styles of Black gospel/religious music and the range was incredible. Definitely doesn't get the respect it deserves
