I recommend to everyone Essential Craftsman on YouTube. A guy that I affectionately refer to as "tool grandpa" is filming the entire process of building a house from the literal ground up, and he uploads tons of other stuff too (like blacksmithing). It's not exactly a how-to-exactly series, but gives you a really good idea of what the basic necessities and challenges are, all the way up to finishing touches (the series isn't done). Plus the videos are mega relaxing. He leans a little medium-small-town Oregon conservative but nothing anywhere near insane; just a few thank the lords here and there.
