One of the worst things about lemmy's UI is that pretty much nothing works if JavaScript is disabled.
There was an attempt to make a non JS based UI (called lemmy-lite on GitHub) but sadly the author could not work on it anymore.
I have been thinking of repurposing libreddit to use lemmy instead but haven't begun working on it.
There's been discussion among the maintainers of a rewrite of the UI entirely. Besides the issue of not working without JavaScript enabled, the framework being used, inferno, is making it harder to maintain instead of easier. This even has security implications. Remember a few months ago when some tokens were stolen? That was largely in part due to the fact we were using a kludge to share data between the server and client since inferno had no good tools or compatible libraries to take care of that for us.
The site has a point, but the wannabe Maddox ”humor” is mega cringe and probably already horribly dated when this was created.
Oh god, imagine this was made when they invented those wagging ads, or ads that loaded in late while you were reading, or worse, the ads that reload the whole page in the middle of an article
I don't know what you're talking about because I literaly never browsed without an adblock.
But I was curious and look at their whois and maybe you're right, I don't know lol.

Using a browser on mobile, and also inapp browsers is a special kind of hell
There were a few attempts at improving this page. This one respects the browser's prefers-color-scheme setting and demonstrates basic accessibility features.
You need like not even 2kB of css (you could get by with less, easily) to make it not look like basic nothingness, though.
