I'm almost morbidly curious to hear how the settlers will spin this as not being rank, flagrant collaboration with neo-fascists. Not enough to go looking, but... Almost.
That’s not entirely inaccurate, while people are acknowledging this was a domestic fuck up, they’re also freaking out over Russian “propaganda” and “misinformation.” It seems like they’re more angry at the fact we gave Putin“ammunition” rather than applauding a Nazi as a whole. If this had happen at any other point in time certain people wouldn’t be freaking out as much.
...I don't know why I don't expect second verse, same as the first out of these people; but they are still eating Russiagate up by the pound, aren't they :/
Yesterday's thread on here about this same incident had a couple lost .worlders already making good on that trope.
The lines I am seeing as of right now:
"How could we possibly have known!? Oh the horror!"
"Well, he only served with a nazi regiment, but he was obviously coerced-he volunteered? Shit. Well he was coerced into volunteering!
"Oh yeah, well Russian Propaganda! We need to stand against anything Russia says, even if it is true"
Russian trolls cynically using plentiful evidence to convince the west there is a Nazi problem in Ukraine
The fact that they're all trying to act like they had no idea the guy was a Nazi is infuriating. WHO ELSE FOUGHT THE RUSSIANS IN WW2?
Poland and Finland, though there's more nuance there than libs care to observe. For example, ignoring the fact the territory they took from Poland was Ukrainian territory Poland was, uh, "making Polish". And obviously the Finns wound up joining the Nazis. They also seem to think Ukraine spontaneously fought the Soviets and just happened to get Nazi support later.
They exist in a vacuum where they think the bulk of the Axis powers and allies that fought Russians were somehow wholesome victims who had no choice but to fight for Nazis. But, paradoxically, the USSR can't be forgiven for the Nonaggression Pact (even though the West signed NAPs first and financed much of the Nazi war machine, sometimes even during the war). Liberals have the attention span and object permanence of a wet noodle.
Poland and Finland, though there’s more nuance there than libs care to observe.
Both were fascist too, and de facto dictator of Finland Mannerheim had an episode when he pushed for commiting a treason against even his ultrareactionary country just to kill some commies.
Still, libs don't seem to care about fascists unless they punch first. At least here in the US, they only view the Nazis and Japanese negatively, and even then only barely. To them all that matters is who punched first (from their perspective) and who killed more people (from their metrics). On some level, they recognize Nazi's racism as exceptionally awful, but when they believe everybody has committed genocides in the tens of millions, it dilutes it horribly.
My Philosophy of Race professor once mentioned "soft denialism", not about this specifically, but the concept of diluting and undermining the severity of a crime against humanity by arguing that everyone is guilty of something similar.
It's pretty simple, they do hate whom the media oligopoly told them to hate. But there is not much space for complete rehabilitation of 3rd Reich and Japanese Empire since US fought a war against them and it is legitly the only really good thing US did in last century if ever, so it would look stupid to resign from that. And maybe it would cause some libs to ask the questions which are answered in "Inventing Reality". So the narration of "totalitarianism" was born.
It really is amazing how effective 10 years of propaganda can be, because what was a fringe belief is now touted as utterly true. Personally, I'm sick of talking about world war 2 but that's all those braindead hypocrites care to mention.
It really is. They all seem to be drinking the Koolaid from the same source, too, because I've met a wide variety of people who identify all over the political spectrum, yet when it comes to the USSR or China, they repeat the same talking points and insults almost verbatim. Which, again, is telling, because they hold a variety of nuanced and varied opinions on literally any other economic system or government. They just seem to agree on communism being evil, or at least corrupted by evil gubermints.
Finland
Nazis who collaborated with the Nazis during the continuation war
Poland
Poland fought for about 10 seconds and then were knocked out, they were not a modern military power. Poland also worked with Germany to carve up Czechoslovakia
I'm just giving examples the libs use. Like I said, they ignore the details.
It astounds me to no end that the west's governments will always default to "whoopsy-doodle! We're sowwy! We didn't know that we were doing a bad thing, we apawlogise! 🥺" And the western public just falls for it, every single time. And in the next breath they'll talk about how great it is we don't live in an "authoritarian country" like China, a country that actually holds their politicians accountable instead of letting them get away with everything.
Nothing i hate more than "yes-man" politicians, put a nazi and tell them to clap and they fucking do it 😡 when our time comes we will not make excuses for terror.
As a Canadian, I hate this country so fucking much. Every single mainstream party is full of bullshit. They promised to protect workers, LGBTQ+ people, minorities, and indigenous people and have categorically failed. Canadians are feeling betrayed, and since we have no true left wing that resonates with the population, they are getting swept up by Pierre Poilievre and his outright populist Nazi fuckery. This country is fucking embarrassing. This parliament thing doesn’t surprise me one bit, the Canadian parliament would rather bring in an actual Nazi into parliament and give them a standing ovation before helping actual Canadians who need help. Sorry for the rant.
As a citizen of the US, I feel a very similar pain and sympathize with you, my comrade to the north.
People online keep asking who the Michael Parenti of right now is. It's this guy.
With respect to Dr. Parenti, I know he's still alive, but I want him to enjoy his retirement.
yeah I know, that's why i want him to retire and hopefully spend the remaining years of his life away from stress
I find this heartbreaking and remember shedding a few tears when I found out, which strangely didn't happen for any celebrity, musician or a public figure.
I feel respect and personal gratitude for this man's work and I would really like to have him around in a good health. I just hope he gets proper care and it would be nice to know if the family needs any financial support, I'm sure many people would like to help if that's the case.
Im sure he makes just enough off of royalties and social security, and I’m sure his son helps as well.

Justin got a Nazi granddaddy in his parliament to honor Zelensky hard .
oof, I just saw the video. Jesus Christ. Embarrassing. "Fought against the Russians in WW2" . . . Parliament forgot about history, apparently.
They know and they love it. They allowed these Nazis to come into Canada to crush commies in 1950s
That’s actually kind of what is happening in Twitter. Some people are still calling the Liberals communists, making reference to Castro being Trudeau’s “real” father, and others trying to make some weird ass connection between Nazism and Communism which is just embarrassing in general. I made sure to recheck some tweets and it looks like both the NDP and Bloc Québécois are calling for the speaker of the house, Anthony Rota, to resign as he was the one who actually invited the guy. There were many officials making half apologies but one of them stood out to me the most; I unfortunately cannot find the Twitter thread he made right now but he was a grey check mark and basically tried to make excuses for what had happened. He essentially said that the SS veteran was someone “resisting communism” and therefore was brought to the House of Commons to be celebrated, they didn’t realize that he was a literal Nazi. They hate Russians so much they’ll celebrate a literal Nazi because he killed them. Now both the Liberals and Conservatives (the parties and their followers) are pointing fingers trying to place blame on each other, and rather than realizing that every MP gave that man a standing ovation, conservatives are sharing gay Nazi memes (oxymoron? Yes, but they do it anyway because they’re stupid and homophobic) and still claim that this is somehow related to communism. I was scrolling twitter looking for the thread and I saw a loser by the name of LibertyJamison post a tweet that reads:
Message to Trudeau, Chrystia Freeland, and the WEF: No one voted for you to be the little Marxist fella dictator of the world nor did they vote for global communism so eff off.
I hate it here.
Edit: The guy who was talking about resisting communism, in his thread he said he was worried that this event in parliament would fuel “Russian disinformation” which is ridiculous because is it disinformation if it true?
On the flipside, I make gags about Castro being JT's real dad because it's extremely funny to call him the Final Boss of Failsons.
Your father would be so disappointed in you, Juice.
Even if it was true it’d be so embarrassing because imagine trashing your father’s legacy so badly 😩
IIRC Buttigieg and Obama both were raised by Marxists.
What a shame.
Hunka used to see the Holodomor bus everytime it came to town. I can't remember him saying anything explicit, but i bet the Ukrainian groups knew in town.
Settle down. This is clearly an example of short sightedness / ignorance and politics. "Russia bad. Man fought Russia long ago. Stand and seal clap"
If one doesn't know high school-level history well enough that "this guy fought against Russia in WWII" doesn't set off a million alarm bells, they have no business being in government.
If their defense is "I was told to clap like a seal, I did, and it turns out I was applauding a Nazi," same thing.
I feel ya. I'd love to be a fly on the wall of their inner thought bubbles lol
How many were standing while clapping and thought ". . . wait . . ."
In the state I teach in, our textbooks make communism out as the greatest failure and evil in the world. A token "6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust" is given, but the history of most of the world goes into more detail about how many millions the alleged idiocy of Mao or the apparent power hungry brutality of Stalin caused. Which is really telling because they take every opportunity to mention when communism allegedly did something bad or failed in a region, but never go into as much depth or detail about any other similar events in history. It's only junior high level geography, but the main focus of all the world history seems to be on how bad socialism is. Every other economic system, war, and historical event is briefly covered in a whitewashed way, but socialism and communism are repeatedly paraded around as evil. This is all the world history they'll get until high school, which will likely have a similar focus.
I've noticed that from when I was in school to now, a decade later, that they've really pushed a "communists were the worse evil all along" narrative. My students, who know very little about the world, know to hate and fear Russia, China, and North Korea, but have never heard of fascism and barely know about Nazis except as edgy jokes.
Do you think it's a coincidence that most of the people who actually fought in WWII are now dead, unable to challenge their grandkids at the dinner table for coming out with nonsense takes? WWII isn't really in living memory anymore, except for people who were kids in it.
I have considered that's part of it, that the revisionism is related to it. Makes me wonder if we'll quit admitting the Vietnam War was a bad thing as soon as that exits living memory... kinda scary to know when I'm dead, the bad shit we did will be erased from history books to trick future generations.
A country that gladly accepted Nazis is clearly one where the rulers weren't particularly concerned about it - these are their kids and grandkids, still supporting Nazis, and still because of anticommunist thinking. This is the same country that continues to occupy land stolen from the indigenous and constantly fails to reckon with even acknowledging it, let alone stop steamrolling indigenous land, let alone implement restorative justice.
Russia bad is part of that anticommunist legacy. Look how little effort it took to dehumanize Russians from the Anglo perspective, look how they continue to rely on the same trope of the Asiatic hordes that will conquer everything in their path - if we let them.
"i mean he was a literal fucking nazi soldier, but the government of canada couldn't possibly know the history of someone they invite to their own parliament building"
One would expect the entire governing body of a country (minus apparently two people) to have a tiny bit more understanding of politics and history given that it is literally their job to know such things.
One would be very disappointed in the result if that was their expectation, but it would be a reasonable expectation.
The liberals had 3 days since the event to respond, the dude should of been thrown out Monday so Trudeau can score some brownie points and showing how tough they are on this issues especially they want to act tough on the grocers to put down the cost of groceries before Thankgiving (lol)
Today, we are Tuesday the dude is still there, the media still try to reason with this shit and the 2 most mollusk brain parties (CPC and NDP) are scoring brownie points on beating this dead horse
edit: Rota is fired lmao
