    October by China Mieville is a good read, but iirc he's a trotskyist so he has his own perspective.

    There's also the Revolutions podcast by Mike Duncan who is a lib.

    Ten Days that Shook the World is John Reed's firsthand account of the October Revolution and the general context that it happened in. It opens with a dry explanation of the parties of the provisional government and how the provisional government was set up but gets very engaging after that.

    I've consistently heard Trotsky's History of the Russian Revolution held up as a good book on it by people who otherwise denounce more or less everything else he ever wrote. I have not read it myself, though.
