A friend of mine is organising a readathon this weekend and I've shamelessly stolen her idea for chapo haha. The idea is simply to try to read as much as possible this weekend. It doesn't matter if "as much as possible" for you is 10 books or 10 pages - just try to put your phone down for the weekend and read instead. It's a very chill readathon ;)
This thread is for posting about the books you're planning to read next, what you thought about the book after finishing, other thoughts about reading, etc.
If you'd like to join but don't have any particular book in mind to read rn, a few suggestions:
- Trans Liberation: Beyond Pink and Blue by Feinberg: (116p) Non-fiction collection of speeches and other writing about trans liberation. Big, important discussions about this book going on rn so it's a perfect way to join in.
- Feminism for the 99% by Arruzza, Bhattacharya, & Fraser: (85p) Manifesto that succinctly pushes back against both capitalism and liberal feminism. This is our January book of the month over on /c/womenby so shameless plug for that lmao.
- Convenience Store Woman (160p) OR Earthlings (247p) by Murata: Murata writes fiction about quiet non-conformists alienated by society. No reading groups for this one, I just think it's cool to read fiction by people around the world. CW for Earthlings, which is a really fucked up book, but Convenience Store Woman isn't like that.
Gonna kick off the readathon by audiobooking The History of Magic by Chris Gosden while I do some chores. It's kind of a three-star read for me tbh, but I'm hoping to finish it over the weekend :') Then will finish reading Trans Liberation myself, and then idk yet. Either pick up a short translated book or start a reread of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.
