Sauron is at least less fascist than your average Gamer.
Tbh, Sauron always seemed like a stand-in for Hitler.
This is even in spite of Tolkien saying that his works aren't political or some shit.
He said they were not allegorical, he wanted the reader to relate to the wide themes of human experience and not to some specific narrow event to be fixed on that moment in time. aka, people read the one ring as an allegory of the atomic bomb, which he hated, it was suppose to be read as a symbol of the corrupting influence of power on people.
Probably just playing some Stardew Valley to unwind and remember a time when life was simpler before he became The Dark Lord.
