The reason this is a big deal to the true believers that spent a lot of money: previously, the aforementioned internet spaceship was only available to people that bought a twenty five thousand dollar completionist internet spaceship package as a followup to a ten thousand dollar internet spaceship package. That was supposed to be a matter of pride and achievement, as the fellow grifters at EA once put it. But now a silly loot drop (that is trivially easy to find, apparently) unlocks the ability to buy the aforementioned internet spaceship for only a few hundred dollars.

I hate artificial scarcity crap like that, especially for digital items, so while a few hundred for the same damn thing still feels like a ripoff to me, I can totally see how the mega-whales are enraged that their tens-of-thousands-of-dollars nerd chariot just got devalued.
