Generally anarchism does reject the idea of authority wholesale whilst also having no historical basis for it. Those societies were clearly in a very different place. I suggest you look into dialects as they will provide comprehensive explanations as to authority and its foundations (and why there are different conditions then than now) especially seeing as they fully had “coercive” authority.
