In terms of time and convenience: Hell yeah it is, it blows an oven out of the water easily.
I will say: On average, oven-prepared food does taste better, but not to the point where it's worth the extra time and effort most of the time imo.
The microwave is a godsend for the tired worker who just wants to sit down and eat when they get home, and not have to potentially undergo an entire project first.
If you have never owned a microwave, I don’t suggest getting one. Speed is literally the only convenience.
Everything tastes better when cooked on a stove, oven or in a toaster oven. I grew up always having a microwave but haven’t had one for the last two years. And I can honestly say I don’t miss it at all.
You could heat up that same food in an oven/toaster oven and it would probably taste better. Like for example, if you heat up lasagna in the microwave, if you don’t do it long enough, the outside is hot and the inside is still cold. If you do it too long, you’re going to end up waiting anyway because it’s piping hot. If you reheat in a toaster oven, it’s gonna be more evenly heated.
Idk i guess it’s just a personal preference thing. But I would rather wait 15 minutes for crispy delicious pizza rolls, than eat sad soggy pizza rolls in 3 minutes.
If its about speed and convenience dont really need one then. I just pop food in the oven, set a timer and go do something else. Don't need it RIGHT THIS MOMENT otherwise just go to the Bodega or fast food.

Speed is an enormous convenience, though.

Microwaves are great for quickly reheating leftovers
