Roundabouts are generally pretty shit for pedestrians and cyclists, yeah. Also, they are way more of a pain in the ass to drive in than a regular intersection. I'm yet to see a single example of a roundabout making an intersection easier to maneuver.
EDIT: I don't actually agree with this sentiment. I copy and pasted this from something someone said on donoteat01's Discord server. I just wanted to start a struggle session.
This is downright reactionary thought. I will not stand for this. While all car infrastructure is a bastard, roundabouts are definitely preferable to four-way intersections. They're not just safer for everyone involved, require less infrastructure and are usually quicker no navigate overall - the fact, that they don't necessarily stop traffic makes them more ecological: Not as much breaking/accelerating as a normal intersection. If done right, the middle is also unsealed by asphalt, giving space to a little greenery.
If you're driving in a city that embraced roundabouts a while ago, you basically never have to stop unless you're driving in peak traffic hours.
I’m yet to see a single example of a roundabout making an intersection easier to maneuver.
Well, I definitely have. They improve traffic flow over stop lights and it's very very obvious.
Roundabouts are a great solution if you've already taken the blackpill on having a walkable city, though they require that a city commits to them because people need to be used to them to see the benefit and having just one or two randomly thrown in will cause problems.
But having a walkable city is better than having roundabouts. Fuck cars.
put it in the dunk tank, this is fucked up.
what we really need a struggle session over is whether shared space is ableist
They are apparently statistically less accident prone than four way intersections, which is why our local neighboring social democrat-run municipality went absolutely haywire and put one in every single intersection making driving there feel like going on those spinning tea cup rides that’s popular with traveling fun fairs.
Don't tell the police this, but a few weeks back after dropping my dad off to get his car fixed I took the wrong way back home and ended up in a roundabout. There was no traffic so I just banked right thru it to get back on the interstate lmfao
Sorry but by posting this on Chapo Dot Chat you have volunteered this information to the FBI, expect a summons in the mail in 2-3 weeks.
I'm sure they're fine to drive but it was my first time ever encountering one and there was no traffic so I noped right out of it. [looks out the window for the pigs]
If you mean that you just went a full circle to get back to the road you entered on, that's perfectly fine and legal to do.
Pretty sure I just cut clear across the lanes of traffic lol
Oh yeah that's probably not okay lol. Basically you want to stay in the lane you entered on, until you get to the exit you want.
I like them since they serve the same purpose as traffic lights but don't require policing in the same way.
it is bad but it is good on big cities that don't have the space for new strets like it is dumb but it works well enough like i dislike them too but it is cost effective and in a for profit society that is the only thing that matters if we were doing things by how efficient they are we would not even use cars* *in the way we use them now there is off course a bigger need for a individual transport system in more remote areas but the idea of USING CARS ON A CITY THAT HAS MILLIONS OF HABITANTS IS INSANE GIVE ME A FUCKING DECENT SUBWAY SYSTEM
I actually love roundabouts, and I make sure to drive around them at least twice before exiting the intersection

When they first started installing them, the locals had a lack of cultural familiarity with them and would be very sheepish upon approaching them, and sometimes do absurd things like drive around them in the wrong direction .
lmao when my city replaced the stop signs on one road with mini-roundabouts, there was one instance when one driver late at night started driving around it 20 times á la that one scene in European Vacation.
