      Back when I used to use them, we were told that HeLa was for "Helen Lane" - I think it speaks volumes that they felt they needed to cover it up with a more race-neutral fake name

      When I did my course it was made pretty clear several times the nature of HeLa cells, and in Bioethics (a required course for Bio-stream students) we had an extended discussion on unethically derived results (like this, and also the hypothermia tests done by the Nazis that were used in charts for many years) and if they should be used and how.

    I read the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and it's chilling what they did to her and her family. Incredible book but terrifying stuff
