it feels like bog standard survival crafting game

Conan exiles is so damn similar and is more feature complete

Granted i think the art style looks cool but i dont really see how its so popular

Do i have to play it online for it to click?

I feel exactly the same way about Subnautica, Stardew Valley, Rimworld, all extremely acclaimed games.

Thats the thing i really like the first 2 there and i think all of those games have a hook that makes them different from other crafting survival games

If you don't mind expanding on that, what do you like about those 2?

I'm really into survival/exploration/crafting games. I love to death Factorio, Minecraft, and to a lesser extent, Terraria, precisely because the possibilities are almost limitless. However when I played, say, Subnautica or Stardew Valley, it felt like the games are intentionally restricted. Yeah, you craft and build up to a certain point, but then the game goes like “there's nothing more for you to do, go follow this thing called ‘story’ instead”, and I'm like I don't give a shit about story, I want to build a megafactory on top of a megafactory.

subnautica had a sense of danger and also wonderment that came with exploring the map

stardew is a very chill game that has a decent life sim component

but neither are very good when it comes to like sort of system building gameplay you seem to enjoy

to each their own i guess
