      except these cultural norms almost always predate both germ theory and modern sanitary technologies. an anthropologist would point out that there is no reason kissing should be considered a natural gesture.

        I thought it wasto ensure exchange of one particular virus that was fatal to fetuses if the mother contracted it during pregnancy but harmless if she contracted it before.
