Dolores Cacuango, also known as Mamá Doloreyuk, was a leader in the fight for indigenous rights in Ecuador born on this day in 1881. She was active in the Glorious May Revolution of 1944 and co-founded the Indigenous Federation of Ecuador (FEI).

Cacuango was born to enslaved people in San Pablourco who worked the Pesillo Hacienda near Cayambe without being paid. She had no access to education due to her lack of resources, and learned Spanish while working as a housemaid.

In 1930, Cacuango was among the leaders of the historic workers' strike at the Pesillo hacienda in Cayambe, which was a milestone for indigenous and peasant rights. During the Glorious May Revolution in Ecuador, Cacuango personally led an assault on a government military base.

The same year, with the help of Ecuador's Communist Party, Cacuango co-founded the Indigenous Federation of Ecuador (FEI), an early group in the fight for indigenous rights. She also helped establish some of the first bilingual indigenous schools.

You are advocating for physical punishment for behavior that's root cause is fully out of the child's control.

not exactly, just that there needs to be better punishments for these kids. As a ML I advocate for some sort of community work, light stuff like... huh i need some ideas for that one

Development would be helped by curbing spoiled tendencies.

What sort of world do you imagine as the best possible if this is your solution to children who clearly need our help?

the best solution in a good world is the re-education of their parents. Children aren't reactionary out of nowhere. Screen time reduction, followed by an increase of public play places.

Another problem is that teachers need a hell of a lot more control of their own classroom. Administration is a fucking horrendous mess.

A switch will not do that.

that was the joking part, I was mostly frustrated. I mean past education does show that physical punishment is counter-productive.

but establishing bonds of trust? Im not going to be making teachers create bonds with a few dozen high wired children a year just to send them on their way and repeat. Teachers get too much shit. Its a naive worldview to think this would become some sort of standard procedure until 50 or 60 years at least if an extreme amount of effort was put into it, in order to give teachers social worker training and bump up the credentials alongside it.

Kids need help, but they need boundaries set on their behavior, although navigating that so that they don't just become even worse is as hard as it is annoying.
